extraction "factory boats"

I hear about huge boats that would carry all extraction machinery (skidders, truck, temporary bridges etc.) as well as mills and laminating machines. These would go to work a consession in any location (usualy tropical).
Trucks would bring everything to the concession site, then bring the logs to the boat where they would be milled. Wrapping it up after a couple of seasons, the machinery is trucked back to the boat and the milling continues during the trip back to the home country/market.
Has anyone worked on one of those? Do you know any operating now? I'm searching online, but can't hit on anything.

Never have heard of logging exactly this way it works for other industries like fishing.

such as Brazil, and the gov't sells a concession of 5000 hectare with a diameter limit perscription.

I heard of a crw from TN that went down there in that manner, although I only heard about the logging, nothing about a mill on a barge. I would bet it is more typical for whole logs to go for export.

There is something called the tropical forest foundation that works training locals down there on layout, felling, skidder operations, may be just a PR whitewash for CAT and the others, I can't vouch for the intentions of the group, but you may learn something from them.

I heard of these boats in the context of Europ-Africa "trade" in the days before the Club of Rome. I'd expect their operations were eco-unaware and they wouldn't "look right" in today 's context. I still believe there is room for them today, but the operators might not advertize because a superficial look might trigger much "talk about what others could or should do"
