Just got to watch a taped episode of Extreme Logging -about mule logging. I have a new respect for all of you pro loggers out there after seeing some of the real danger involved in dropping the big ones. Also lots of respect for those guys using the mules -looks like it could get ugly real fast. I just could not believe they did not have a grapple to load the truck.

Appreciate the repsect for the professionals and the dangers of the job. Those guys really had no clue what they were doing when it came to felling. Maybe pointing out even more how dangerous it is when not properly trained.

Sorry if the show aired 3 weeks ago -thanks to my DVR I was able to watch it when I wanted and had time. Does not change what I said in my first post. And it was a good ad for Stihl!!

does anybody really have a clue about anything these days? lol

I missed the darn show. Ill have to wait for rerun. My FIL raises mules and was all excited it was on. He said it was good. Hes not into cutting though just mules to ride.

The worst part is that those guys are real people in the real world, scary.

No. They are real people all right but they are in a TV world. If the show were to be taped of real activity with no suggestions by the producers it would be boring, boring, boring as nothing exciting would happen. That was abundantly clear in the Axmen series where they were faking stuff happening every show. That the incidents happened was true, that those incidents were set up is also true.

That's right. About the most exciting thing that happens around our outfit is somebody finding a steak sandwich in his lunch box.

Excitement usually comes from something bad, like a wreck or an expensive breakdown....something unusual. Excitement is counter productive. We're there to get in a good steady-going day, work safely and effeciently, and to get some logs down the hill. We don't have time for drama.

Boring? Sometimes, sure. But if it's boring it means that the cycle of falling, skidding, processing, and loading is going on without interruption. And that's how we make our money. There is no other way. We don't get paid to stand around looking salty. We don't get paid to argue. We don't get paid to have little temper tantrums and break things. We don't get paid to do stupid things and we sure as hell don't get paid to do anything unnecessarily dangerous just because some film crew wants us to.. Logs down the hill...that's what we're paid for.

I was enjoying and slobbering over that nice water at the base of the hill on the helicopter show. The water was calm and lots of it to kayak in. It looked very relaxing, between the dumping of logs. Anybody know where they were located? Besides some distance from Port Hardy.

Yep. When the boredom is boring and the production producing then life iis good.

The "boring" comment was meant for the person watching the show. Someone doing a 'boring' job is probably not paying attention close enough.

Regardless of the need for a "hype factor", those guys were still idiots without professional logging skills. Their lack of skill created a lot of excess drama.
