Hey fellas, looking for suggestions/advice as to what to do with my current chip truck.
It's a 94 f-600. Great little truck but it just doesn't hold enough chips. Also I have to detach the chipper and lower it all the way down on the jack for it to shoot up into the truck. My thoughts were to have the top torched off at the seam right above the ladder box and add about 2 to 3 feet of steel, then weld the top back on. If I were to go that route my next thought would be to try and beef up the rear suspention to compensate for the extra weight of the bed and more chips. Add a spring? Would I be pushing the axle limits?

As it is right now, It needs a little cosmetic work to the front end (log took a bad bounce) and after the bed mods I would have the whole thing re-painted. I donno, its got just over 100k miles but it runs like a top, turns on a dime and its paid for. I'm guessing my proposed project might be around 5-6k.

Won't be doing anything till the spring so I have plenty of time to think on it. Any input is appreciated. Thanks
Dan

Dunno if you have the same springs, but I could put another f600 in the back of mine and it would be fine lol.

wanna sell your hood? lol..
yeah I don't know, seems the way it is with the chipper and a full load of chips the springs look almost maxed. maybe they're different springs?

Must be then. I had 2 tons of oak logs in this truck and a chipper, and it was standing tall.

I like that box.. How much? And what do you like better? the ALC or LR3

LR3 and I want 4500 as is ... I could find a used engine for about 2500 and you would have a kick ass truck for less than 8K < i just wanna find a 4x4 for snow work and thats really the only reason

Have to agree with you on booms there..... I bought an alc this year, and sold my LR3

what do you guys like better about the LR3? I got an ALC, never used any other bucket

the hitch is pretty low to begin with

The chippers got bigger than that truck was intended to handle, height wise. The 75 chevy one ton box I built for a chuck and duck, then the company I was working for gave me a 1400 vermeer and I had to lower the tongue down some like you, but mostly got by just adjusting the shoot down.

The power company was requiring a self feeder for to make the right size chips for EAB req, so I bought my woodchuck wc-17 because I thought that they were going to shut me down before the treetards in missouri would send one up. I have the same problem with it, so the one I built on my super duty stands with 10 ft clearance with 6ft head room in the box. Both roofs hinge over to allow for top loading. You might consider a design that allows for that concept.

I should think that you could beef up a 600 some and be ok axle wise, but it would be more like an f-750 or 800 then right? Could you mount a tag axle? I had one on a 71 chevy c-60 graintruck that I used for a chip truck once. I don't think I could have overloaded it had I wanted to.
