Thought I would pass this along, just got it from one of my old professors and haven't had time to take a look.

Just another resource for y'all.:)

All: FYI -

In 1996, a series of UCF Factsheets were developed by Cornell Extension
following devastating ice storms in western NY state. The factsheets
have
recently been updated by the Davey Resource Group and the Northeast
Center
for U&CF, and hotlinks have been added, connecting the reader to
additional
resources related to tree care, planting and community forestry.
Please
take a look at the collection of factsheets that are now available
online,
and distribute via your networks, or link, as appropriate. These
resources
are short, two-page briefs that provide a simple, easy to understand
introduction to a variety of topics.

You can access the Factsheets online at
<http://www.umass.edu/urbantree/factsheets>

Any suggestions or edits are also welcome.

Thanks, Dave Bloniarz

FActsheet on Managing Storm-Damaged Trees is really pretty good; "it is often more cost-effective to have a professional clean and repair Priority 2 trees, than to remove them and replant. " is my favorite line in there. It does say to prune off stubs; while heading cuts are necessary to save some trees, it's hard to state that as a policy.

FEMA is mentioned as a resource, while I've seen their actions as unnecessarily destructive. They pay contractors by the ton of debris instead of by the crew hour, encouraging removal of salvageable trees.

Yes tis the season to think about what to do about ice damage; good to have these links handy.

The ISA put out a number of consumer brochures that are now available online
These are a good link to have on a website, but imo it's much better to pay the $.20 each to buy them so you can put them in potential and current customers' hands. The Planting and Mulching and Mature Tree Care ones I buy 500 at a time, they're so useful.

One downside is you can't use the online versions if you change the wording, so you're stuck with stuff like "most young trees need to be limbed up to 8'" and other such nonsense you can cross out if you buy the hardcopy.

The NADF, www.arborday.org, also has some good brochures, and you get more for your money; unfortunately you get more questionable statements as well.
