I listened to Dr. Coder a few weeks back and those are his words.
"Farming light," wow I really never thought about it. I had heard him about 12 yrs ago @ wtsherril but never heard that until now, thou he probably said it.It is changing my perspective on trees alot.
For instance, I never thought you could affect the growth in such a dramtic way. Over time opening the sky is a real shot in the arm to lower canopy trees. Farming light is better than all the chemicals you could ever sell.
As a consumer when I call a C.A. they should fully understand the concept of time and how it applies(when farming light) to my landscape.
I feel all the work should not be done in one visit.
Dr. Coder suggest a 5 year trimming cycle?
That means to me trimming less more frequently 1 yr, 2 yr, and finallly the 5th.
Native trees that can be displayed more and pronounced to others its own presence should be. Try not to exploit structure.
The point of view and perspective is most important. Almost always standing in front of the property.
Also displaying neighborhood trees can be very rewarding over time.
I hope that for me in 5 years I will not say, "I cut that stump down" or "there used to be a tree between thoses houses." Rather, I thinned and farmed light there."
Farming light is not the same as lighting trees which is mostly a nighttime display of structure.
Who's farming light and installing lights?
