I spent some time with my 10 year old son today working with some firewood. We were not cutting, splitting, and hauling. Instead we built something from firewood. Any guesses what we are building?

Your father / son project looks much more fun than the ones my pop had for me.

I’m betting it’s one of them rustic log chairs..assuming there’s more wood than what’s pictured?

Nope, all the wood is pictured.
Here's a hint:

Here's the rest of the work that went into it.
Please forgive the messy work shop. Here's my son shaping the handle and sanding the wedge. Today was the first day he got to run the belt sander.

He trimmed the excess, and gave it a few swings.
I can't seem to get him interested in automotive repair or garden work. But he does like hunting and shooting and this is the third wood working project we have done and he really got into this one. He wanted to do all the steps on his own. The only thing I didn't let him do was bore the hole in the head and shape the handle to fit tight.
I wonder if I broke any child labor laws.

I may have guessed the correct answer but the right answer was given by Spyder62.

Are those storage bins made from oil cans? Looks to be a neat setup.

If your son takes an interest in firewood - going out cutting, splitting or delivering - bring him to the Church Street woodlot some Saturday morning. We would love to have you both.

You are right on the oil bottle storage bin as well. I read about that in a off road magazine years ago and built one to organize bolts and screws.

I tried looking at the WJHL story about the firewood ministry but the page would not load. Is that located right next to the old Fullflex warehouse?
Can anyone just show up and volunteer?

Even though I like gardening and automotive repair......I like hunting and shooting better.
He's on the right track :)

Yes and yes. The young man featured on the TV clip was younger than your son when he started. He really loves it. But you got to - otherwise as you know it is just hard work. Usually start around 8:00 on Saturdays. Usually breakfast before. Lunch at noon. Most leave after lunch. The rest around 3:00. Deliveries all through out the week. Some of the retired work at the lot during the week. I am not on Facebook so I will find out the schedule for this Saturday and send you a PM later this week. https://m.facebook.com/pages/catego.../Greene-County-Wood-Ministry-111388568917153/

Nice!

My 2nd son is named Thor. Of course, I made him a Mjolnir (Thor hammer) for a birthday, and have bought him several since.

Well, the latest Avengers movie showed Thor getting a new hammer, so he wanted to make one.

Here is all he has made so far:

7 stitches.

I think I should have spent more time helping him with the bandsaw.

So we had a bit of bonding time in the E.R.
