ive got a mid 90's vermeer 625, there is a lip under the feed wheel from the bed knife and branches keep hitting it and make chipping a nightmare. my mechanic wants to weld a plate infront of it to build up the surface. Has anyone ever done this or heard of it being done? we checked the bed knife to make sure it was tight and actually replaced it and it is still sitting a bit high.

I would contact Vermeer at 888-837-6337 and ask for the service department for the proper repair instructions. I've never heard of this happening before. Is the support for the bed knife cracking and dropped, creating the lip?

I hope this helps.

well i called the dealer and they told me what i suspected, its pretty common on the older generation 625's for this to happen, he said after 1500-2000 hrs of heavy use the feed tray naturally wears down just infront of the bed knife and needs to have beads of steel or plate welded in to make it level again. $300 fix

I'm glad you were able to get an answer about the repair. The steel must be pretty thin that Vermeer uses. You might be able to find a welder in your area to help save money when making the repair.

Good Luck.
