Looking at a Freightliner fl 70 with a 57wh Aerial of Conn rear mount. 2002, 137k on the truck, not sure of the hours. Anyone know of any maintenance problems with either ? Our 96 GMC Topkick, Altec LR IV, bracket platform went, and bunch of other problems with it, 15k to fix it from Altec in Ashland Ohio. Also anyone dealt with Schmidy's out of Illinois ?

Hey Deerhunter just curious are you looking to get the Freightliner from Schmidy's or was your GMC bought there? Didnt know if you had a problem with them or if you were just asking around... I'm in Northern IL and see some of there trucks around.

Cylinder rods should be replaced every 7 years cost about 1900.00 each. They wont do any work on it till this costly update is done so I am told . so if you need say a 500.00 repair you may spend 4300.00 to accomplish this . The dates of the cyl rods are stamped in the ends . Call aerial lift and verify what I tell you.

I would call Aerial Lift of Connecticut with the serial # of the lift, I have one & love it. They are very helpful, & will let you know when the required updates are coming due. They keep very good records & will come to your place to inspect/update it.

Expensive the rod updates I got to tell you!

picked up the GMC at auction in Rome NY

Schmidys has a Freightliner with a Conn boom on it. Were hashin it around. The rear mount will help us out, as we only used the box on the bucket we had to hold the matts. I understand there is maintenance on the booms, etc. Just tryin to minimize the bs, as everyone is. There are a few others were lookin at. The GMC was good to us, LR IV, but the platform bracket went, and it needed a bunch of other stuff done to it. Shame cause we put a motor and tranny in it withing the last few yrs. Thats life though, and nobody got hurt, so we're good. Can't keep putting money into a 96. There is another guy in the area that bought a truck from them, Schmidys and didn't have anything bad to say. Bought a truck from Maranuk down in Pennsy, but they don't have any rear mounts at present time. Most everything else in NE is late model. Racket is too tight to drop big money right now. Hopefully economy turns, quick !

Hey don't discard that truck yet , it can be made back into a chip truck relatively easy , you only need to find a southco prisoner cab and the truck will change with a matter of bolts , ditch the boom and keep the truck or maybe find a remount they are everywhere and its a switch that can be made for a lot less than a replacement of the entire truck..I have a LRIII and if something happens to the oom will just find another ..

Cables on LR III

Don't the cables go on the LR III's ? Thought of making it into a chip truck, but seems like keeping an extra truck on is getting so expensive, ins, maintenance. This areas tree industry has been decimated. We had a storm in 06 that brought in alot of out of towners. They did so many removals, it will take yrs for things to level off. As well as the #### economy. Have to watch every dime, streamlining the operation. Top of that , many customers are taking forever to pay. It's only November and already into overdraft. Gonna be a tough winter, that is for sure. But now that you say that, a big chip truck would come in handy, esp on those big pine jobs.

Two cables that are small not like the old machines that have the entire cable in the boom , the prisoner cab won't set ya back that much , those trucks are specked exact for a bucket or man cab , they are interchangeable completely .. I love my LRIII it reaches most work and is that heavy , I would like an elevator but there big bucks ..
