File size for 3/8 chain

I have always assumed that the proper file size for 3/8” pitch LP chain is 5/32”. But then I read that 3/8” x .050 gauge should be 7/32”. Umm…so what file size for 3/8” LP x .050? This is the standard OEM size for most chainsaws under 16”.

You assumed correctly. Guidelines I use:
3/8LP - 5/32
.325 - 6/32 (3/16)
3/8 (non LP) - 7/32 or 13/64
.404 - 7/32

3/8LP has 4mm file

3/8......you start with a 5.5mm......and end it (when its tooth are smaller/at the end of life) you use 5.2mm
