The last few years I have been managing to stay 3 years ahead on my stacks. Late last year my old firewood tractor finally gave up the ghost. Nothing beats having a 3 point hitch to pull the splitter and firewood carts. Fabricated a hitch mount that was tall enough to haul the splitter with the ATV. Than my back went out bad and I was out of service for over 2 months. So when splitting time came up, I had a host of other stuff to catch up on first.
Today I finally got the last rack filled and am 3 years ahead again, and the chimney is cleaned and ready for winter. I 'm done!!!!!!
Except for the trees that need to come down and cut into rounds to be split next March, to stay 3 years ahead. Oh well, it felt good for a few minutes :)

That's a good feeling!

Depending on how much I burn in a year I could be 4 years ahead or not ahead at all. But most likely I will have a couple years worth stacked up this summer.

I'm slowly getting my stock built up,

So far this year I've got 2-3 cords, some of it is damaged by the forest fire but I guess that only means its got a head start drying out!

Only owned this property for 1 winter, going on what I burned last winter I should have just enough now for the coming winter. All goes to plan ill get another years worth this summer.... but hey you can never have to much fire wood right?!?!

Real nice to be far ahead. Comes in handy of you get hurt or ill.
Agree completely. Last fall I tore my rotator cuff and was laid up which prevented me from gathering any wood. Lucky I had enough already processed to get me thru the winter. I got back to gathering wood again at the end of Dec. I managed to get that wood processed, and some of it stacked before having a knee replacement 2 weeks ago. Needless to say. I aint cutting any wood right now, but I have enough leftover and some dead stuff I harvested in the spring to make it thru this winter. If it comes down to the nitty gritty, I can burn some of the wood I have piled up around my wood shed. Its is all split and drying in the sun.

That's it, get it in and handy while you can, ya never know. I have gotten hurt and couldn't split, then this summer got real sick, took more than a month off couldn't do much. Just now getting back in the game. ya just never ever know. Glad I got several years ahead when I could.

I totally agree after having one of 2 surgeries for carpal tunnel. I won't be able to do much with wood until sometime later this fall. It is good I have wood put up for the next 3 years. Second surgery is this coming Tuesday.
