I sold my one ton dump truck last year hauled 1 cord looking at buying something to haul 2 cord loose not stacked. (350-360 cubic feet)
What size dump body's are you guys using to deliver 2 cords of wood at a time

I would figure closer to 200-225 cu ft per cord loose off the conveyor.

Even then your setting up for complaints if you sell by the cord without an accurate way to measure it, not to mention all the splitter junk that falls in with the wood.

I have been selling loads of Poplar just loaded right off the conveyor. The truck has a 4ftx8ftx12ft bed and it's filled till it falls out. (So the middle of the pile is a good 6+ft tall). Roughly 450 cu ft.
I've had reports back of anywhere from 1.5 to 2 cords.

I use a C30 Chevy with dump bed to deliver up to 2 cords, but it needs to be stacked to fit that. The bed is 3.5ft tall, 7.75 wide and 12 long...
Loose I can get at best 1.5 cords, and that's with it filled till wood is falling out, so 4-5ft tall in the center.

You may want to look into a dump trailer if you have a big enough pickup to pull it. In our area when you go larger than a one ton dump the insurance is bad tires are a lot higher and the bigger dumps seem to draw the DOT even if you stay under the CDL weight limit. I sold my big dump years ago for those reasons and went to dump trailers as I always have a big pickup.

F 350 stake body 12x8x4. I throw two cords in loose. When I first bought it, I stacked a cord on the ground then tossed it in and took spray paint to the inside of the bed so I would know in the future. Then I stacked another cord on the ground and threw that in the truck as well. Stacking the back row because I don't use the gates, it filled the truck to the top. I have delivered about 600 cords in it and everyone has been happy.

Thanks for the replys
I've been tossing back and forth trailer or another truck but doing the math it's looking like 14'x7'x48". Size body. Sold my dump truck and bought new 1 ton dodge to tow a trailer and haul my family. because dump truck was rusting away only being used for 3 months ayear. but now that's it time to buy something to deliver wood I keep flip flopping trailer or truck
The north east forestry expo is next weekend in Bangor I got to pick up parts for my block buster processior.
I'll bring some cash and look at trailers and hope for some deals

Since you have the big truck for me it would be a easy choice. In this state trailers are cheap to tag up compared to trucks. You don't need more insurance for trailers. My trucks insurance covers the trailers insurance needs. With my insurance the trailer is covered for theft if it is stolen with the truck. Don't ask how I found that out.

I'm getting into the same situation with more and more repeat customers wanting multiple cords....such is the price of success. Dump trailer is looking like the best option for me.

These are what I use. Of course I have to pull them with a tractor so it limits delivery to about 10-15 miles max. Which is fine for me, they can haul from 2.5 to 4 cord of wood depending on how they're filed. I can pull the red one with my pickup and I have. I've been curious about plating it as a trailer. I'm not sure if I can or not.

Around here dump trailers are expensive... like 10-12k for one large enough to hold 2 cords.

Then you have 4 more tires to mess with, plus the length of a truck and trailer.
Insurance for my C30 is about $30 a month.

As far as 2 loose cords in a 4x8x12bed, I think that's a push.
I fit 2 cords in my truck stacked and that's it... Both on weight and space.

I have five dump trailers like yours that are made out of old grain trucks and one is made out of a old dump pup trailer that I removed one axle and added a goose neck hitch. I use mind for wood storage for my Garn. We always stack split wood on them as we are splitting so we usually get 3 to 4 cord on a load. We cut our wood at another farm about 20 miles away so I usually pull them with a farm tractor or a semi tractor.

I have a $6.5k- 14k dump trailer that holds 2 cords loose. (16'L x 7'W x 3'H plus heaped in the middle) The trailer is awesome! Cheap tags and a yearly inspection is all it requires. We have pulled it with a 3/4ton and a 1 ton dually, both duramax. Loaded, it is a little much for the 3/4 ton. The land is also pretty steep in my area. dmax dump wood.jpg
