i always browse the free section on craigslist to see whats in there, usually idiots lookin for you to clean up the branches in their lawn... i dont really need the free firewood, but its been a goal of mine for some time to get free wood from craigslist,i see other people scoring,i always see the ads, the pictures, i wanted some of the action! i wanted my first craigslist score!
well it paid off and i finally answered a good ad lastnight, she said several other guys contacted her already, so i figured i would hit it up ASAP tonight and grab a load and check out the situation,
i was the first one to make it there.
i wish i had brought my camera, probably a total of 10 cords, ALL OAK, red/white/pin , already cut into lengths from 16-24" length, all 8-24"+ diameter, no brush/branches, all put into a pile with a machine at the end of a new construction culdasac! access couldnt be any easier, back trailer right up, all the wood is on the pavement already!
the lady new her stuff, she said there was a bit of rot, but 90% good clean wood, she was right, hardly any rot anywhere, just good clean oak! little over 20 mile drive each way.. loaded the trailer with a cord, and said i would call her tomorrow to come get more. she said a couple other guys were supposed to come tomorrow , but to come on over whenever i wanted.
i picture pulling back into that culdasac tomorrow, jokeying for positions amongst 2-3 other guys with trucks/trailer fighting for the "good stuff", well see what happens. one guy coming told her he was going to "take it all" ... lol.. good luck, 8-10 cords of green red/white oak, all 8-24+" diameter, ill bring the camera tomorrow, there will probably be several overloaded trucks, including mine :)
anyway, pics for proof after i got home, yes it happened, i popped my craigslist free firewood cherry and i didnt even break a sweat doing it!

its all stacked strategically like a puzzle underneath with big rounds the first 2 layers, i just tossed some of the smaller 8-10" limbs on top to finish it off,the wooden sides on trailer are almost 3ft tall, shes overloaded as is ,cant be getting too carried away
time for a larger trailer:cheers:

Based on my experience, I'd say you are WAY late in getting over there this morning! You are likely going to miss out! Get your backside in the truck and MOVE!

well, you sure called that one !
i had something i had to do this morning... so i called the lady at 12noon to see if it was alright if i came by
well, apparently she said that a guy has already made 6-7 trips, he started at 5:30 this morning, when she woke up, he was outside loading his truck... im on the phone with her at 12noon and she said one guy already made 6 trips, now 2 more guys are there, each with a truck of their own, and the other guy who took 6 loads, is coming back.
so.. thats it for me, at least i popped my cherry with some free oak
