Did my first removal today on a balck locust that was a lightning victim. Got to use the Port-A-Wrap and a sling/pulley too. And to add to the excitement it was my first time wearing gaffs. Not comfortable might I add. Everything went very well and what a ride when you drop the whole top out. WHOOOHOOO!!! Does anyone have an opinion on the Whoopie v. the Loopie? I'm just using a Tenex eye sling but I'm curious about the others.

Red,
I'm gonna be making loopies and whoopies this week coming up, if you wanna get together, we could work out some good pricing, I got a pretty sweet deal on the materials so i'm sure we can make you something up for a good price. PM when when your interested.
Glad your removal went well, Sounds like a great experience. Did you check out the pics on Let's Get this party started? I climbed that Sycamore this afternoon. It's located at 119th and Quivira.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to come take a look at the tree w/ you. I've been super swamped. Today was my first real free day, and i've been needing to get out and practice for the TCC. Are you still interested in getting involved, Youshould at least get to Springfield and watch, it's a great learning experience.

What type of pads, gaffs were you using? THere are a bunch of different kinds out there and and need to pick the right combo for your leg. I started using using titanium with velcro with metal insert last year after about 15 years in iron & straps and they feel great. Get yourself a comfortable set-up now if you are planning on doing this long term you will need & like them.

IM going to order this week the biggest whoopie i can get ,im sick of using dead eyes or whatever there called

A loopie is a continuous adjustable loop, thus it is double the material of a whoopie. Each are used in a choked situation, so the load rating is lower than a basket setup

A Loopie is an adjustable RoundSling; a Whoopie, and adjustable Eye-to-Eye sling.

So, per same size material; a Whoopie would be longer, a Loopie would be stronger, for Loopie is doubled it's whole length(at a cost of more material to produce).

Nice drawing Mike.

I keep a whoopie atached to a porty with a shackle... as a unit in the truck... No need to untie or tie a clock hitch or even undo a shackle... Just adjust and pull the porty and shackle through the eye... Could anything be easier???

congrats red on bustiing you first top. the rush from it is really something. for your spikes, i dont like them either, hurt my back, but there are different pads and straps available which are more comfortable than others. go to a trade show and try different styles out so you dont waste your money on something you dont like.
