First time milling

hello all,
after much lurking on this forum it was time to try it myself.
i bought a G888 and mill.
My oldest son love to help me. He loves big machines.he is the best help i can get.

Glad you got some good bits from that, and more importantly, a fun time together building lasting memories.

What mill and chain? What did you not expect?
Thinking of taking the plunge.

When I tackle a piece like this I usually remove some of the thicker end as shown by the thin red line - I just do it with a chainsaw out of the mill.

OR
Use a frame to raise the end of the log rails as shown by the thick red line.
Here is an extreme case.

Mill is a budget mill. The chain is from a brand called longer.
