I'm getting a new set of blades made for a Fitchburg C-6 wood chipper and have to guess at the length since the old ones have been ground down so my question is does anyone know what the original length was on these blades? The manual says to set them with no more than 1/4" protruding so I would find the bottom setting and measure off of that but if anyone has that dimension I would appreciate it. The funny thing is that I got this chipper from an apple orchard before it went to scrap. I'm restoring it to use, I've got the engine running nicely and now I'm going over the chipper head. Anyway the Grandpa says there is a new set of blades for it that should go with it. The son and and grandson both remember them, wrapped in brown oil paper but they have dissappeared.

I have a Fitchburg chipper that I recently picked up not sure of the model though. The drum measures roughly 6" across and it has a 4 cyl. continental engine. Don't know if it's the same as yours but I do have one new blade if it is the same that I could measure for you. Also sounds like you have a manual for yours which I don't. Can I possibly get a copy of yours if you have one ? Dave

Fitchburg Knives

Hello,

I'm a dealer who sells Fitchburg knives and I only show 3 dimensions for knives that go on a drum chipper. The dimensions are as follows:

9" x 2 3/4" x 3/8"
12 3/8" x 2 5/8" x 5/16"
15" x 2 3/4" x 3/8"

I hope this helps you.

Mine is a C-6 and the blade is 6 3/8 long and 5/16 thick so I'm guessing it's a 6 inch, so how
wide is that new blade? I'll make some copies of the instruction manual and send you one.John

Those are all too long, mine is a drum chipper but only a 6 incher and the blades are 5/16 thick and was wondering if a 3/8 blade would fit because the blades I'm cutting down are 3/8 and it sure would save alot of time if I could use them at 3/8 thickness. I'm guessing the new blade width is 2 5/8 unless the other Dave says otherwise, John

Hi John,

You should be able to get away with the 3/8" thick knives however, you'll have to check the following:

-Make sure that there is enough threads on the bolt to hold the knives
-You will have to adjust the anvil to the new thickness (remember to turn drum the opposite way in order not to damage the anvil or knives)

If we can figure out the width and the bolt hole pattern (center to center) and diameter of the bolt holes, I may have the knives available.

Hope this helps.

The one blade that I have is 6 3/8 long and the rest of the measurements look the same. The same as on the drum. The blades don't have any holes they are held in with wedges. I will PM you with my info I greatly appreciate you making me a copy. I will also research blades and if I find any I will let you know. I'm sure if there not already available they can be made. Dave

One edge is tapered the other is not. They are locked in with a wedge and the drum has set screws in the bottom to set the depth of the blade. The measurements John have are the same as the blade I have. Hope this helps. Dave

Dave and John,

I can have the knives cut and the size will be 6 3/8" x 2 5/8" x 5/16" single edge and the leadtime would 3-5 days before shipping. The price for each knife will be $39.75 each plus shipping. These knives are USA made and if you would like to order any, please contact me at 770-966-9056.

Thanks and have a good weekend.

Dave

That's a good price on those blades, what other stuff do you have? I am looking for a blade setting tool, either the old style or the new style, do you have one of those? John
