Bought a used 70-80's(?) Fitchburg (I believe) wood chipper few years ago. Not too long after had trouble with overheating/radiator blowing steam. So far two radiator shops looked at it with no real fix. Any suggestions? Has a Straight six Ford in it.

Here the fix for it. work back in the days, , the radiator is not cooling off because it is getting to clug with dust, will run 15 minutes and over heat, if this is your problem , the solution cost less than 10 buck. Put a window screen as a prefilter so the radiator does not get clogged up with dust , just frame it on the out side. and when the screen get to dirty blew it of with the air blower,
second problem could be the pump (the radiator pump ) but5 try first solution before changing the pump.

Yup, that is what I would say. running a chipper without protecting the radiator is gonna heat up fast.

Check and see if it is a pusher or sucker fan. If it is a pusher fan the screen won't work on the outside as the debris will be on the inside part of the radiator. I tell my full time customers to clean radiator once per week.

Thanks.

I have a Fitchburg chipper I believe its a round mid to late 50's. It too would overheat. It has a four cyl continental in it and i found the govener linkage was loose and over rev. Now fixed it runs good with no overheating. I also open the front engine door when running in hot weather to increase the air flow.
