is it ok 2 use a friction hitch with a wire core. seem a little sketchy to me. what do the pro's say?

as long as the rope around the steelcore isnt bunged up i dont see why not.

i'd rather use a gibbs or the likes though. even on my rope flip. they seem to deal with pine sap on the flip better than a rope hitch does.

thats my take.

thanx od. my concern is the cover pulling free and slidind down the cable. i dont use this setup and think it makes no sense to me ,but i was wondering if it is ok to do.

You definately can use a hip prusik on a steel core lanyard, even advance it with a micro pulley but don't use the pulley if your lanyard has a snap on each end . You may have a loss of control if you accidently have the pulley on the wrong side of the prusik when using the 2 in 1 lanyard. Prusik grab and hold very well but it seems that your always working them loosening and tightning them. I myself no longer use the prusik on my lanyards, I have 2 lanyards on my saddle at all times,1 on each hip, 1 cable core, 1 not. Both are 5/8"and minded with a Petzl macrograb.

are you sure there not 3/4:hmm3grin2orange:

I currently use a four finger prussic on my steel core with a micro pulley for one handed adjusting. I works fine until you hit the sap, then the misery starts. I am waiting for my mechanical adjuster by mail order.

and thats why i point to post #2. i mean using some old school ways is one thing but not making your life easy is another.

i know beowulf doesnt like the ascender for his legitimate reason but i dont think i would run the rope hitch on my flips ever again.

Funny-i read your first post and was gonna ask when you are gonna get rid of the gibbs.

Change of subject a bit oldirty, but it is about friction hitches, didn't i read on here a while ago you were gonna switch to the martin? How's that coming along?

nope....... 5/8".
Macrograbs fits 5/8"- 3/4" lanyard.

have yet to see a 3/4" wirecore lanyard.:hmm3grin2orange:

Why 5/8"? That's alot of lanyard.

havent gotten around to it yet. its in the plans for sure but not yet. in AK i think i will have a little more time to screw around with the kit.

besides i like my gibbs for the flip. you know how it is, you like what you know.

The larger Macrograb is alot nicer to handle then the smaller Micrograb.
