I have just recently learned of the line of saws Ford motor co. produced in the early seventies. I have only seen one picture and I dont know what model I was looking at. I understand there was a hawk 1,2 and 3 and an eagle 1 and 2. If any of you have any pictures you can post please do. I am also interested in any info about these saws. Are they rare? Where do I go about getting one? I also heard a rumor that they came with certain Ford trucks with a case built in under the hood. Is any of this true?

I don't know anything about the built-in carrier or included with a truck stuff, though I'd love to learn, but I do know that they were sold to employees back when Ford had lots of private-label items for employees.

I have owned one for a number of years, having been given the saw by my grandfather back in the early '90s. The saw still works, though it needs a tune-up, new air filter (which I'll have to create from scratch, I think), and a new starter cord (broke it two weeks ago).

Were all of the eagles similar? have you seen others? The other picture I seen appeared to be the same.

My understanding is that the Eagles were substantially the same.

The Hawks were of a different design and looked much different. I found some pictures of them online about a year ago and I am sure I saved them somewhere...just haven't found them yet among my unsorted downloaded pictures. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Thanks, any info helps. I would like to know more about the distribution. I have found out that they were made in Troy michigan. I am from the Detroit area and if they were distributed locally then my chances of getting one might be better back home. Any info about distribution or how I might obtain one would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a 3 point hitch mounted, PTO driven, Ford chainsaw to put on the back of your 8N or similar tractor at a friends house years ago. I would bet that he still has it. Rarely threw anything away. Always wondered how you got the tractor out of the way quick if the saw blade pinched in the tree. It looked like the same sort of 6' bar that the old 2-man saws used, with the operator guiding it from the end. The bar rotated for vertical or horizontal cutting.

Have you checked Mike Acres site, Chain Saw Collectors Corner, acresinternet.com? I looked up Ford chainsaws there a while back, but I don't recall what info or photos were available.

The Ford saws are O&R saws
The Hawk is an O&R Mustang and the Eagle is the O&R Challenger
They were offered through the Ford tractor dealers.

The information I found said that O & R engines manufactured out of Los Angeles Ca. Where as Ford manufactured their saws out of Troy Mi. Do you have any information, pictures or links about the mustang and challenger. I found my information at www.acresinternet.com Regardless it is a cool site. Check it out. Click on "saws".

You could almost have a seperate type saw collection of just tractor manufactures. There are Ford, John Deere, and Allis Chambers, are their any others out there I'm missing.

My collection:

Lumberjach. Not sure, are you asking me? So far I've gotten my saws locally in my own area. One came from Rochester, NY and a couple from Beacon, NY but the rest are from around the Ogdensburg, NY area. I have been watching Ebay recently, but haven't bought saws there as yet, just some parts. The parts I sometimes need I've searched for on the internet mostly, with help from menbers here and have gotten some parts from members here also. Hope this ansures your question. Lewis.

Collectin saw:

Hello, as I said most of the saws I have collected locally. Mostly I just keep my eye and ears open and ask people I meet if they know of any old chainsaws and go from there. I've checked out a few garage sales, but the saws I've seen there locally are just junk consumer saws, not worth worrying about. I try to collect different make saws made proir to 1960 and 4 cu in engine size or bettet. I don't have the room for, nor do I want Mac Mini Mac 6 saws, small Poulans or Remington Mighty Mites. I've gotten several emails from people who have saws for sale, at least they've seen me listed on the Mike Acres site, I ask for pics, prices and shippng cost. I'm waiting till spring to possibly get a Disston KB7-AY from a fellow in SC that has been stored since 1960, he's has offered and is saving it for me till then. The pics he sent of the saw look great. Hopefully can talk my wife into it by then. Just ask questions, let people know your looking for saws and by word of mouth and sites like this, you will eventually get prospects to consider. Take care. Lewis.
