Forester Pulp Hook, Junk.

A couple weeks ago, I grabbed a couple new pulp hooks at the dealer, Forester brand. I've been using the same ones for longer than I care to remember, not the forester brand btw. Both of the Forester hooks have now failed. The first one failed in less than 2 hours of use. The second failed today. Both wood handles have come apart and the tips on both keep loosening up and coming out. I'll get pictures of he one in the truck, the other I hucked in the woods in disgust.
 
Never used them but I bought a Forrester aluminum cant hook and couldn't be happier. Their stuff it's hit or miss. and even varies in quality from one batch to the next
 
Here is the first one that failed.
if tis any consolation. grind one of the ends of the dowel pin. pull it out, after pin punching the ground end....get a hardwood dowel. drill just a tad larger hole in center of proper length of the dowel. put back together, and have a guy with a mig,,spot weld the ground end of the rod...mig is just cleaner than arc..but either works....
 
It really is. I was truly dumbfounded. I didn't expect miracles, but I did expect to get a year or so use out of them.
Seems it's just typical hit and miss quality as stated before, with what we gamble purchasing nowadays. And it costs time, money, etc to either physically take something back or ship back to a mfg if ya can't get a pre-paid return ship label from the mfg/place of purchase.

...and it's a shame we purchase things and hafta spend money/time modifying them to get'em to work. Think Oly's got the right idea on making it right and functional once again.
 
Got a Timber Tuff brand hookaroon several years ago at our local farm store for significantly less $ than a well known brand and it is ok. The very tip of it broke after some use, but I just took some material off and reshaped the end(tip) and it works better than ever. Sometimes you have to do a little extra to make these cheaper tools what you need.
 
Take it back. We sell Forester stuff in the wife's store and would gladly replace it if you bought it from us.
It's not my dealers fault that the product is not any good. He gets them through a distributor that he puts an order in once a year. I dont feel that he should have to eat the cost of a product that he did not know where bad.
 
He doesn't. He sends it back and gets a new one in it's place.
either way, I don't see the point in wasting time returning a POS product, just to get the same POS product, id be looking for a refund, not another piece of junk...
he bought 2 of them both failed, seems the chances of a new replacement failing are pretty good to me...I would look for something else
 
You're both right. However my dealer would just eat it to keep me happy. He already treats me better than he should so this I can deal with. As for an exchange, I'd be in the same boat anyway. I'll take an hour some night and fix it right. I'll make a good handle and weld the hook.

at the very least be sure to tell your dealer about the quality issues. i know if there is a problem with something i sell i want to know about it. It is better to hear from a good customer that a product is junk than to sell one to somebody else that might not be so understanding.

I told him, he told me to bring them back because that is how he is. I said that I would fix them.
 
Was looking to replace my pulp hook that I thought I lost and looked at one at my dealer. When I picked it up it didn't feel ergonomically correct, felt nose heavy and the barb wasn't barby enough for my liking. I don't recall what brand it was but something told me not to buy it. Since then I found the one that I thought I had lost and mine felt so much better in my hand. IIRC my friend who bought it for me got it from Baileys.
