Do I need any special permits or licensing to work there? I hear they are pretty corrupt at Town Hall.

A buddy of mine who is a contractor is refurbing a house there and they need a tree down in the yard.maybe I can work with someone local or get a local the job.It may not be worth me going down.I don't mind climbing it but I'm not dragging any equipment that far.

Let me know if you have any info on the town or if you are interested.I can put you in contact with my buddy. He's a good guy.

Looks like you may need a permit:

Tree Removal & Replacement Ordinance

FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that as of August 1, 2002, the Borough of Fort Lee has instituted Ordinance #2002-31- An Ordinance Establishing Chapter 156 of the Revised General Ordinances “Tree Removal and Replacement.”

Section 156-1. Purpose. It is the purpose of this ordinance to prevent environmental degradation; to preserve existing natural resources; to control the indiscriminate and excessive cutting and destruction of trees; to prevent the destruction of the aesthetic character of established neighborhoods within the Borough; and to provide for the replacement of trees when removed.

Section 156-2. Regulated Trees. As used in this ordinance, the word “tree” shall mean any woody plant having a diameter greater than 8 inches as measured at a height of four feet from existing grade (i.e.,at its base).

Section 156-3. Prohibited Activities. It shall be unlawful to remove, destroy or substantially alter in such a way as to impair or endanger the life of any tree without first obtaining a tree removal permit.

Section 156-4. Permitted Activities. The cutting, pruning or trimming of trees in a manner which is not harmful to the health of the tree and which will not endanger the tree’s continued vitality is permitted.

Permits are now required to comply with the above said Ordinance, and may be obtained through the Fort Lee Building Department, 309 Main Street, Fort Lee, New Jersey. Hours of business being 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

A copy of the Ordinance is on file with the Borough Clerk and the Building Department; and the same is available for inspection daily.

Sincerely,
Einar Erik Swanson,
Construction Official

I'll take a look

Hey Fishercat....shoot me a pm if you decide not to go on a road trip, be happy to take a look.

Depending on the location of the tree on the property he might need a permit. Also how many total trees a homeowner wants to remove.

Peace

They just want the money , if its not a historical location like a main street they will just give the permit with very little question , and depending on the tree location on the property they may not even require one , most only cost 15/30 at most and there ready pretty quick..Don't back out over permits

he said it was a pine.

I will get more info from him and let you know. i prefer not to go that close to NYC.

I like going over the Tappanzee and down the GS Parkway.

You can take the Tappan Zee to the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The distance from the TZ to the GSP is about the same as the distance from the TZ to Fort Lee using the PIP.

If you decide to take the road trip

Just make sure all of your trucks and trailers are legal. Not just the paperwork but the sometimes overlooked things such as ; tires, weigh signs, secured green barrels. By all means don't leave overloaded. Seems that the towns around here ran out of money and the only way the can get some is on the backs of a working man. Through the means of road block/check points, with little portable scales. Have never seen so many "checkpoints", daily.

Good luck

thanks for all the advice.

they are crazy up here with the cops and DOT.and they wonder why everyone is moving south.

if i come down,i'm only bringing my toyota pickup and climbing gear.nothing else.

I ain't messing with it.

I have enough going on here. and I don't like NJ anyway.

If any of you guys in that area are interested,PM me your name and contact info,i'll forward it on.
