While cleaning out a storage bin at work today found a Stihl 090 G . Shop man did not even know it was there. Covered in old grease and wood chips spent a few hours cleaning it up, changed the plug, flushed the carb, added fuel and BAM, the thing starts and runs. From reading posts around here these are great saws for collectors and mill operators. Not sure if I am going to keep it and repaint or sell it. Paint is chipped in a few spots but not bad. Any one have a ballpark what they are worth? No bar or chain and missing nut & cover that holds sprocket. Everthing else complete.

Sorry MB I was going to strip it down and send you sprocket if it did not run.

090G price

I think it would be worth more $ if you don't mess with the paint, especially if the original paint is Stihl pretty good. IMHO

Hey, don't be sorry! I'm still glad I ran across mine, like yourself! We need to start an 090 G club here! At least we might have strength in numbers concerning finding the FREAKING REPLACEMENT PARTS! .

I sthil love it... :)

The elusive 090g spur

I wish, I was closer than 700 miles away,or I would "carve' you out a spur on my Bridgeport mill.I still think you are going to find the sprocket, before that guy gives us the numbers for that McCulloch saw.:D

700 miles

First and foremost,I do not have a clue as to what is the size of the shaft,or the key way.I would say,off hand ,that it would be metric, of course.Have someone send me a worn out one,and I will cut a new one, using the old one as a pattern.Best deal, you have had so far. :D

Al,
You got a Bridgeport? Got a pic? You got a lathe too?

Al,
That is some serious equipment! Not many folks have tools like that in their garage. You aren't looking for any Starrett tools are you? I have a 6" dial caliper (black face) and a last word indicator I am looking to sell or trade. The calipers were rebuilt by Starrett shortly before I retired as a machinist. I intended to use them for QA/inspection, but never needed them. So they are essentially new. Let me know, later, Roger.

I have a bridgeprt in my garage, not runing, but its there. We mounted our pipe bender and vise on it. Also have small lathe, neds some work to it. Have a bnch ofoter mtal working tools like a 48" break, 28" pan break. Also have a 400 amp miler od style industrial welder. Not the elecronic ones, the ones that have their own water-cooled transformers in them. It weighs like 1500lbs. Ill show you guys some picture of it later when I have the time, and maybe some piures of our '68 Dodge Dart SS/AA drag car.

pm'S

Perhaps, the site didn't pass them on,but I sent one.The gist of the message was that 1/2" chain, will cut,a whole lot faster than .404,on this old gear drive.1/2" chain is hard to find'but not impossible and used only on occasion, would last a real long time.If .404 were in fact used,it would be better,in my opinion,to use an 8 tooth spur, because of the increase in chain speed.I think it would be easier the cut the spur, from a spur drive clutch, than make a spur from carbon steel[ it took me about 4 hrs to make the spur for my McCulloch]What I do need, are the outside dimentions of the shaft, the thickness of the spur and the width of the key on the shaft. If I had these measurements,I could determine what spur drive to cut down to make this spur and also could use either 7 tooth or 8,which ever you want.I also got a "PM",last night from a gent about boring out a spur for a big gear drive Homie.Same applies here with regards to dimentions.I could do them both,at the same time ,because I would have the mill use the same set-up.Drop me a line, when you get a chance,at [email protected],and tell what you want to do.Al
