Hi all--

About three years ago I planted a weeping katsura tree roughly 5 feet away from a corner of my house's foundation. Currently, the tree is about 6 feet tall (with offshoots reaching 12 feet high).

The other day I noticed some decent size (given the tress young age) roots on the surface of the mulch bed. The exposed roots are all within two feet of the tree's trunk.

How concerned should I be about this trees roots causing damage to my house's foundation?

No foundation cracks, no worries in regards to roots. In all my years the only foundation damage I have seen from roots is when there was a preexisting defect in the cement. Unless you live in the tropics & have a Fig close by.

Big roots on the surface are a sign of poorly aerated soil below. That's why wide planting beds are recommended.
