Greetings,
I'm a first time poster, however, I have been reading posts here for a while. I'm having a problem and I thought I'd post it here and get some feedback.
A friend of mine who is a log salvager brought me a 272 that had been used by one of the local helicopter logging companies. He got it for a case of beer. Anyway, it had obviously been sitting for a long time and I could not get it to run for more than a few seconds.
I cleaned it all up, put a new carb kit in it and still could not get it to run properly. I disassembled and reassembled the carburator. There was nothing wrong with it. I put the carb on another saw and it worked fine. I couldn't find an air leak anywhere. It wasn't leaning out so I did not know what was making it so hard to set up.
Finally I took the bottom end from a 268G that I knew was good (nice saw with heated handle, missing fuel tank) and put it on the 268 bottom end, the saw now ran like a champ and cuts like a raped ape. But, you don't want to turn the thing off all day because it's such a ????? to start again. What have I got to do to get the thing to run???? I have changed out the atmospheric vent in the tank and I know the carb is good, compression is excellent, fuel filter & line are good.
I would appreciate any feedback you could offer me. Thank you very much,
