Hi all you chainsaw gurus out there:

I just picked up a free 026 from a neighbour. The P&C are toast but the rest of the saw is in excellent condition. Since I will be replacing the top-end anyways, are there any mods I should be considering doing while I am in there? I will be opening up the muffler a bit. Is there anything I can do to inprove flow on the intake side? Would raising the piston skirt a bit on the intake side make sense on this saw?

P.S. Are Bailey's top end kits any good or should I pay the $$ for the genuine Stihl parts?

Thanks very much and merry Christmas all. Hope there are lots of saws under the tree.

Don.

Just scrap it and drop it a my place, I will put a tree out to put it under, you can't be too far away. LOL
On another post there is the muffler mod. The cyclinder on my 024 looked bad but cleaned up well. Maybe post some pictures to see if yours is toast.
I got the piston kit from Baileys as the price was reasonable. There are some post about the after market kits to.
Good Luck
Bob

If you are just going to do the top end without tearing it all the way down,,,Before you take it apart do a pressure & vacumn test on the crank case/crankshaft seals if it passes still check the impulse, fuel hose, and intake boot and make sure they are not dryrotted or cracked,,,, If you are tearing it all the way down then you have to do it all again anyway once you put it back together to make sure you dont lean it out and score it again,,,,, :givebeer: :givebeer:

Oh yeah A muffler mod for sure will wake it up and if you are brave enough to do your own port work there are a ton of people here who can talk you through it and there is always the AS sponsors and some others who do mods if you dont want to attempt it yourself LOL do a search on modded saws and you will get the idea!!!!!

Baileys shipping to Canada

Hey Bob:

Did you have Bailey's ship your parts direct into Canada? If so did you have to pay duty etc? Were the sipping costs reasonable?

Thanks,

Don
