I thought I'd share this with folks on here because it might be of interest. I recently was pointed to freecycle.org, a website that directs you to local freecycle groups. The groups allow folks to exchange "junk" for free, whether seeking to receive stuff or to get rid of stuff. Last week I connected with some folks who were giving away free wood, and I picked up a full trailerload of three years dried mixed hardwood; I split it yesterday and it made a nice heap of fireplace-ready wood. I might go get some more next week.

Then I got an idea - why not see if anybody had a free chainsaw they wanted to part with. Now, odds are 80% of the saws will likely be junk, but that other 20% might be worthwhile. So last night I posted WANTED: Chainsaws on the local freecycle board. When I got up this morning, I already had two people looking to give me their old chainsaws. One is a Homelite 150 Automatic - not exciting, but I'll pick it up tonight. The other is an unknown "Monster chainsaw" that the lady giving it away did not think could fit in her trunk; I'll pick it up on Tuesday. Now this "Monster chainsaw" could be garbage, but it could also be a pristine 100cc+ Homelite or Mac from their glory days. But regardless, it is FREE.

The point of my post is that folks on here with or interested in old chainsaws might find freecycle.org a useful means by which to get saws (running, for parts, who knows) for free. Something folks might want to think about looking into.

Thanks, I'll look into that, and see how it works. who knows, someone might want to help me out with some of the junk in my place.

you basically have to get it. I just got rid of a little bit of extra stuff I never use through this method. its an excellant way to clean up the house, and free up space.

I just signed up for it I don't really know what I should put up their thought they say the first thing should be a piece offering sort of thing. I't does not look like a bad site though.

( question who is the young man using W. N. picture -- on the lawn again )

Joined the local one here about a month ago, haven't figured out what I'm getting rid of yet, great idea though!

Freecycle.org is GREAT! I've gotten enough bricks to build a decent patio, a nice wicker rocker, bookshelves, boxes for moving, and a bunch of other stuff that way. Even a non-running 12 HP riding mower!

Recently saw 200' of wire field fencing given away - you come pull it down and pull up the posts. Saw 150' of 6' privacy fencing go back in the spring. I was too slow on both - it's first come, first served.

Got rid of moving boxes, a bed, and other stuff that was in my way.

It's all pick it up yourself, so long distance stuff doesn't make sense. That's why they are broken down into various local groups. Costs nothing, ever.

Such a deal! :D

Cool Now hopefully i can find people to take some of this firewood without having too pile it up and burn it!
