I thought I'd share this with folks on here because it might be of interest. I recently was pointed to freecycle.org, a website that directs you to local freecycle groups. The groups allow folks to exchange "junk" for free, whether seeking to receive stuff or to get rid of stuff. Last week I connected with some folks who were giving away free wood, and I picked up a full trailerload of three years dried mixed hardwood; I split it yesterday and it made a nice heap of fireplace-ready wood. I might go get some more next week.
Then I got an idea - why not see if anybody had a free chainsaw they wanted to part with. Now, odds are 80% of the saws will likely be junk, but that other 20% might be worthwhile. So last night I posted WANTED: Chainsaws on the local freecycle board. When I got up this morning, I already had two people looking to give me their old chainsaws. One is a Homelite 150 Automatic - not exciting, but I'll pick it up tonight. The other is an unknown "Monster chainsaw" that the lady giving it away did not think could fit in her trunk; I'll pick it up on Tuesday. Now this "Monster chainsaw" could be garbage, but it could also be a pristine 100cc+ Homelite or Mac from their glory days. But regardless, it is FREE.
The point of my post is that folks on here with or interested in old chainsaws might find freecycle.org a useful means by which to get saws (running, for parts, who knows) for free. Something folks might want to think about looking into.
