Can anyone give any leads or contact info for freighting equipment to Australia.
Looking at a couple of Kohler engines from either Ohio or Arizona.
Don't know where to start.Sellers are willing to pack an load ready for transport.
Just costing at this stage.Might not be Eco feasible !???

UPS has an international freight division - UPS Supply Chain Solutions- they'll set up everything for a whole container.

There are a ton of companies that do it - the port here in Charleston is slammed!!!

Find someone in Victoria that imports cars and motors and arrange to add your motor to there container. You save on duty and customs charge.

I just replaced a 27hp kohler motor .$4500 fitted to Carlton machine.I conciderd buying overseas but with freight and customs and the chance it wasn't right shalf etc I bought local.I am however wanting to buy rayco Super Teeth from the USA ,at $12 US new or $8 recon ,with Duty must be better than $22 aust each....

thanks Abbey....
Good suggestion - Thinking something similar.A wealthy aquaintence
imports couple of pristine mustangs each year.
7 / 12...22 worth looking into ,for sure .Where in Oz are you ?
Been a bit busy with gravely ill ,elderly mum in hospital and juggling work commitments.

Will post any findings

Hey Gumnuts
I started doing stumps 7 years ago in Adelaide. I don't cut trees and find its very competitive as new people come in and out of the industry. Over the years I've looked at buying a machine from USA ,now with the AUST$$ being so good ,the drought has slowed down the stump work to part time. I have a Carlton 2500 1999 model and just put new motor on it. And a Agtrac SM2 I bought in Sydney. My local Arbour shop still charge $22 for Rayco Super Teeth and wanted $550 each for front wheel bearings I just replaced( paid $250 each from bearing place in Melbourne) pays to shop around.Eamonn

FYI - the Howard / Bush governments implemented a free trade agreement.

While there is no duty on the goods, the importer is still liable for GST and any customs, quarantine, handling fees, etc etc etc on the consignment. It has the potential to escalate quite rapidly.

Also, post 9/2001, many US businesses will not accept a non US based credit card. This means a TT (telegraphic transfer or bank wire) which can mean fees of up to A$30 from your bank to send it and at least US$25 on the other end to receive it.

Do your homework and check your numbers. You need to make sure you have calculated the landed cost of the goods.

Australian customs - ph. 1300 363 263

Under $ 1000 purchase price .....no duty or GST.Over $1000 then you get slugged for 10% GST on total of purchase price , insurance and freight .
With vehicles ph 1800 815272 an approval cert is required from department of infa-structure.
Generally duty is 5 % plus 10% GST on items over a thou.

Depends if the item is close to a thou what the seller will state on insurance paper-work.hmmm....its worked well for chainsaws.
