Not a chainsaw...... but
.......I had about 6 dead 4130 series trimmer powerheads, so I gathered up the best combination of parts and put a 40mm (fs90) together. When I put the cam and lifter pins in, I didn't realize it at the time, but the FS130 pins were about .020" longer. I assembled the clamshell and timing cover with yamabond, and it fired and ran on the first pull. From there is was untunable, and was idling really high, so it was obvious that there was an air leak. I thought maybe I hadn't let it dry long enough, since it only takes about 20 minutes to slap everything together.
A quick pressure test on the crankcase revealed the timing cover wasn't sealing worth a hoot. After measuring the pins I realized what was wrong.
Lesson learned. I thought I would pass it along.
