I made up my mind to buy a new small articulated loader. I have more or less settled on a Gehl 340. Now one of my employees thinks a swinger 1K is a better way to go. He got a chance to check out a 340 on a trip over Christmas and didn't like the controls on it....claims the 1K is more what we are used to although he is basing that on what he read in swingers web site only. Any thoughts, advice? Thanks.

I would stick with a major manufacturer who will be around for the long run. Swinger is a very small company with few dealers. I would be a little nervous about there long term survival. Gehl is a large company, with lots of bucks to invest in engineering, unlike Swinger.
Overall, I think Gehl is the smart investment when spending this kind of money.

Gehl 340

Have you considered the kubota r420? I'm also thinking of an articulating loader. I would like the gehl 140 but thinking I would kick myself for not getting something bigger.

I like the R420 but unless they have came down in price they are on the high side. I don't particularly like the controls on the Gehl 140, 340, 540. I started out originally thinking about the Gehl 140 but they are too tippy and I don't want to run duals on one. The 140 is sorta high profile and only 41 or so inches wide...that ain't good. Gehl copied the wacker nueson machines so one is basically the other. So I'm down to the 340 or the swinger 1K.

Which machine did you select? I thought I wanted a Swinger A.G. 2000 , but a friend pointed out a Gehl 340 .

We're getting ready to buy one or the other soon.

The gehl 'hanging claw' attachment looks neat, but im worried that those hoses would get caught on stuff. I am more familiar with the tree fork style claw clamp on the swingers we have operated. I have not seen something like this on any of the Gehls so far. Is the hanging claw that superior?

What tips do you guys have on this topic now ?
