Well it was a very cold evening and I was outta split wood.
Tryin to scrounge up a few stray logs around here, but not finding any.
So I notice this nice big pile of oak bark behind the woodsplitter.
I thinks to meself, That stuff looks like it'll burn good. [bad idea]
I loads up the fireplace with all this nice thick slabs of oak bark.
Get her going good, puttin out some decent heat, hotter, then hotter, then hotter.
Holy xhit, I thought the house was gonna burn down, Man that fire was hot!
I actually had to pour a little water on it just to cool things down.
I never burned just the bark before, and never will again.
If you're cold and wanna warm things up quick,
Burn a little bark.

you want heat?

a bunch of us were out fishing in - 30 celsuis weather. we made a big fire ring, poured 3 x 50lbs bags of BBQ briqquetes, doused in lighter fluid and lit it up. Once the briqquets were glowing white hot, we had to sit about 10 feet back to prevent our jackets from catching on fire. :ices_rofl:

More heat. As I was serving my duty in the army, we used to burn those dark brown dry breads (I don't know what those are in english). Our stove (inside a tent) was red hot and outside the tent there was over - 20 celsius.

now thats a fire. 2 times during the summer my whole family goes up north to a cabin. and well, the fire gets alittle too big. seems the more alcohol you have the more wood you add. and the same thing happens as above, you are a good 10 ft from the fire sweating your butt off. :hmm3grin2orange:

Talk about heat. A cousin of mine in NH has an annual "wood-splitting, gun shooting, fishing, bring yer own wild/killed meat to grill and no-women allowed" boys weekend each year and one year they had about 12 pallets stacked up on the firepit outside. Unfortunately, the firepit (usually confined for grilling dinners) is about 15 feet from the house.

After it got too hot to stand around, they all went inside the house looking through the bay window at the fire and they could still feel the heat. The paint peeled on the house and that set the tone for the wood splitting weekend. It became an annual event after that. You can bet his wife was hopping mad. :hmm3grin2orange:

Every New Years Eve my boss's friend has a bonfire, this can probably be seen from space. Trailer loads of pallets, anything flamable, and whole small trees are fuel for the beast. They warped vinyl siding form a good 30 ft away. The police arrived one year to see if the house was on fire. Then the police made mention of the fact that outside un-contained fire were illegal in town unless they were for cooking, "No problem officer the franks are in the fridge, we're just waiting for the fire to get going". There was a couch on the pile that just begining to go up at the time of this statement. All in attendance save for the mans 18 year ols son were rather drunk, the kid being 18 and sober kept it the officer from arresting anyone, there was a legally responseable adult in attendance.
