Ran across this so thought I'd throw it up here.
I worked at the Gold River Logging Division from 1969 to 1973 and boy, were things different then.
Grapple yarding was just coming in and almost all our machines were line-types rather than the prevalent hydraulic oriented ones used today.
Never saw a load of second growth back then either and I recall one load that was only three pieces, and that on a P-16 Pacific with 14 foot bunks.
Lots if smaller wood being harvested these days.
