stump grinder, 4 cyl gas low hours

I have an alpine magnum which is great until you get to the 3'+ stumps.

I do not have any experience, however, with a tow behind unit. I have rented a vermeer 252 about a 20 times before purchasing the alpine last year and was not that impressed (beat up rental units with lousy teeth).

Would it be worth buying a tow behind like this (assuming its the 37hp wisconsin)? I don't feel like dropping a ton of cash for something that is hydraulically driven. I am still paying for my chipper (best purchase I ever made) so I want to be careful with my money with financing and such.

In addition, I think I can trust my guys to use a unit like this without my supervision (unlike the finicky alpine, which is great, but has a big learning curve)

I'd double check the price if I were you before getting too excited.
Seems like it's missing a zero maybe.

I agree, price not right...

That being said, i would not buy a tow behind, too much trouble and it limits what
u can grind, thats just my opinion tho..

Talk your rental place into using Greenteeth and then buy a set of replacements. I spend 15 mins changing to my teeth and tear it up all day long, like 40-50 stumps if planned right. You can keep your own teeth as sharp as you want. Do not buy a tow behind.

That price doesn't seem that far off, that's an old machine from late 80's - early 90's. I used to work with a vermeer with the same set up. (think the one your looking at is a Rayco) Can't think of the model at the moment, but it had spikes that fit onto the trailer tongue. you dug them into the ground then extended the machine forward, pull the spikes and retract, then repeat to get across a yard. Took a LONG time, it would be faster to plywood. It was also a bit under powered for its size/weight.

Tow behinds have their place, I plywood mine across yards all the time. They're priced lower then self propelled grinders with equal hp, but for obvious reasons. If I can't get the big grinder to a stump I also have a self propelled 25 hp. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Rayco super rg 50, but on a budget a big tow behind and little self propelled have worked for me
