So, of all the injuries that can occur while doing tree work, I screw up my wrist playing golf! A friend asks me to take the afternoon yesterday and enjoy the beautiful day on the gofl course rather than at work. I haven't had the chance to swing my clubs for a few years so, i figure 'why not'.

Long story short - I lay up on the 7th hole right next to a tree and, thinking I can clear the lowest branch with a short backstroke, I take a whack at it (too honest or dumb to just kick it clear). The club caught the branch just enough to turn my wrist into a wierd position so that, when I hit the ball and followed through with my swing, I felt a pop and excrutiating pain in my left wrist. Had it on ice all day yesterday and wearing my carpel tunnel brace at the office today because it hurts when I bend it in any direction.

That was pretty much the end of that 'fun' day of playing hookie. I get x-rays on my wrist at 4 today. Hopefully, it's just a light sprang.

Crud! Of all the lame &%$#% things to get hurt at - golf!

Gonna be fun trying to finish out the tree work season with a gimpy left hand.

I feel ya...

Arbor Pro,

I've been gimped up this summer with a bad wrist. Good luck with your appointment today.

and so it goes---- The accidents, we never see coming or plan for, are the ones that get us. How weird life seems, actually. A guy goes thirty years in trees, never gets seriously hurt. He visits a friend, in New York, during down time in Winter. He steps on a patch of ice, flies up in the air, and comes down on the back of his head. Dead at the scene. Yeah, life is one weird road to go.

Dude

Hey if you injured yourself playing golf you better rethink your line of work.:ices_rofl:

Ah man! That's the way it goes. It's because at work, your focused and plan everything as professional and safe as possible.Your mental guard is down when just taking it easy.Your state of mind is relaxed as well as your body.(good thing though,we need mental brakes to keep healthy)
hope you have a quick recovery.

Golf:I only wish I was plating golf.
Ever got a rattle through the nipple, that,s what my brother did to me the other day.
Wish I would have left it there for a ornament! OUCH.
take a limp wrist anyday.

Oh you just try to swing one of those clubs without a good warm-up. Ouch!

But you're right, the hardest thing about playing golf is either staying awake or keeping the bottle of vodka down.

A treeco owner in the state had been building his business for 12 years; going full bore the whole time. That 12th year, when deer season comes around he decides to go out and get some quality time in with himself and the woods.

Gets out to his stand, and realized he had forgot his tie-in strap. Heck he's been in trees for 20 years, wtf, he goes up in the stand w/ out any safety.

Long story short, he is in a wheelchair (for many years now) still runs his company and can run the stumper in most yards with his one good hand and the bad other one.

Got the x-rays done and, luckily, no break - just sprained. I'm quite thankful that It's not broken. It sure felt that yesterday at the doctors office. I could hardly move it in any direction without pinching pain.

Iced it last night and worked a 12-hour day today. gonna quit typing now because it's quite sore and time to ice it some more.

That's enough golf for me this season!

AP I feel sorry for your injury. Or at least I will as soon as I get of the floor where I fell whilst laughing. Of all the ways you could hurt yourself on the job and you do this playing golf?

Sorry mate, it was a reflex action. :ices_rofl:

Pretty lame way to get hurt, eh? :)

My hand's pretty swollen this morning. I can hardly wear my wrist brace.

Hehe. Reminds of when, working in the metal industry with 60tonne presses, grinders, drill presses, gas cutting and welding................ I put myself off work for 2 weeks with an infected thumb.

Apparently you should use a glove to catch a baseball. :jawdrop: Who would have thought?

I have been finding cuts on my right hand where my thumb attaches to my hand on the backside of my thumb (top of my hand). I have been getting them for weeks and wondered WTF are they coming from.

Yesterday in the workshop I find a new fresh cut as it was bleeding and I knew it was not there a minute ago so now I could narrow down where it was coming from. I had to be ~3' from the source. Then I found it, my table saw blade guard was causing it! After ~12 years of use the side plexiglass had gotten worn by the blade and had created a razor blade edge on it. So my safety device was causing my cuts!
