My private Arboricultural Services have been available locally for a long time to anyone lucky enough who needs Tree care and just happened to have me knock upon their door. Nowadays I have grown to realize there are benefits to marketting, however, I have never marketted my availability for this kind of work. Hence, I have remained a very small outfit, perhaps some of you out there could input your opinion on the least expensive most effective means of marketting, besides yellow pages. But if the yellow pages is the way to go, then voice that opinion by all means. Door knocking is by far the most productive for me in the past, but like I have said, I am tired of relying on only that. Thanks everyone your opinion is important to me.

Being in business without advertising is like peeing your pants while wearing a dark suit. It gives you a warm feeling, but nobody really notices.

I'm not in the tree business, but business is business. You have to get the word out. Check out these guys for plenty of ideas, many of them free, if you just poke around the site and do some reading:

the yp here has 104 ads for tree svc and 4 ads for arborist.

Hmm, where will you be noticed most?

I imagine most people don't know the differance between an arborist and a tree service. I have found that targeting a neighborhood with a delivered flyer, explaining your services works well for us. throw the word free in there and you will get calls. either free estimate, free visual assesment. a basic look around, but we do charge for canapy inspections and a remedy consultations.

I have heard, from really big outfits (one I used to work for), that flyers are the best. really put some time into it, don't boast or lie, but expain your services and expierience related to the type of work you target.

As far as flyer's go...

People want to know: -are you experienced, what you can do, that your insured, you'll take care of their property & trees, and are a solid stand up company and not some hack outfit!

Make sure it can be read within 30 seconds max! Before & after pictures are a good idea as well. Keep it simple but informative. Have them available on the ground while your up the tree so passers by tan take one. There are a lot of shy people out there!

Good luck. HC
