I've got a 99 F550 that I set up as a dual purpose work truck. IT will haul my carlton 8018 on the bed for stump grinding. I will also use it for hauling hay bales,(25,000 lbs at a time). I've been hauling a few loads of hay and wish I had a few more HP for hills and getting up to speed. I'd like to try a used craigslist programmer with a safe tow mode. I'm looking at the older superchips. Anyone using them? Thanks.

look in to TS performance chips, they have 6 positions, i use stock 50hp and high idle never mess with the other settings in my 97 7.3l. they seem to be popular, but with heui injectors you would gain more that probley 50hp. but on my truck it wakes it up and it makes a big difference when your loaded to beat hell, good luck!

:agree2:

TS 6pos it the only way to go.
Might contact Travis at 2L motorsports...he's big in the truck pulling and definitely knows his stuff. He set mine up with custom programs back in 2003 or 2004. I now have 350,000mi on that truck and it has been great. His e-mail is [email protected]

I had real good luck with DP tuner. Was a big difference over an edge juice with attitude and evolution programmer. I drove few trucks with TS and tony wildman chips in them and the DP seemed to be the strongest.

i agree dp tuners are great. i have one and love it. you need a good intake system and exhaust and dont forget gauges.

Best advice so far. Let the truck breath a little better, get some gauges to watch EGT's and then go with a chip. I would be conservative with it when pulling a load if you don't go with gauges.

I'm thinking that's the route I'll go. There's a guy locally that has a diesel shop and programs TS chips. He charges $375. He told me he's got some mild tow programs that won't run too hot under heavy load.
He has a good reputation.

Buddy had one 22mpg when you didn't and 5mpg when you did, need it

Another vote for DP tuner, Jody burned me a program for heavy towing and it works great. My dozer and trailer were 22k combined weight and the temps would rarely get to 1300 deg. It workes very well. CJ
