The place is huge! Yes, more than a dozen stools so you can wait for your stuff, they were even repairing saws for people while they waited! One gentleman asked for a carb they didn't stock, dug through the used parts pile just to try and find one! Imagine what that pile looks like, no I didn't see it, he went out back. There were more than a hundred saws on the repair rack waiting to be picked up after they were serviced!

This is the saw rack...COMPLETE WITH DROOL RAGS! Every model Stihl and Husky with most having two or three of the same model, different bars and wrap handles. They made a nice looking, brand spanking new, MS460 with a 28" reduced weight Oregon bar and wrap handle for a guy while he waited. .404 square chisel chain...to go!

Up walks this older gentleman and asks if I found everything...Yes Sir. He had been talking with a couple other guys about the Silvey SDM-4 and Razur II grinders. Asked him about the blue grinding stones and what he thought and mentioned that I had overheard him with the other guys and said he sounded exactly like he knew what he was talking about and that was why I asked him. Had to ask if he worked there or was just shopping. He said, I used to work here, now my son does most of the business. Stuck his hand out and said his name was Ralph Madsen!

I picked up a Blue grinding wheel for the Silvey, shaping brick, couple double taper wedges, 12 pack of cotton falling gloves and a free Madsen's catalog for later!

Stopped and ate lunch at the Centralia Deli on my way out of town... needed a partner by looking at the seats. Great food!!

If you ever go that way you have to stop.. And see this....... The 090 Hot Saw and a Nitrous Oxide burning 084!!

Great trip, Thanks to those of you that recommended a visit, 100 miles one way on the dot and worth every second of the crappy drive,
poured cats and dogs the entire time!

Tomorrow.... Wayne Suttons chainsaw collection in Amboy. And yes I'm taking a buddy so we can pinch each other after seeing that stuff and say HOLY CHIT, You see that saw with the 8' bar!!!:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks for posting these pictures. I wonder if anyone has seen their "parts saws". I'm sure there is a semi truck or 2 parked out back of nothing but parts.

Sweet photos! Now I can make out the saddle seats, couldn't see em before. Just a pink blur. Thought you was funny......
Hope you bought me one of those nice ms460 Rescues, I like those big handles.
You met Mr. Madsen himself,,,, wish I'd been there. Just couldn't do it.....

But I will be in Amboy tomorrow!!!!!!:rock::rock::givebeer:

I'd like to check the place out myself but...I'd be almost into retirement when I got there lol. Anyhow I'd look like a fat kid in a candy store so it's probably best I stay here!:hmm3grin2orange:

I'll probably get popped for plugging a non-site sponsor...........but they are great people to deal with. I wish everyone operated like they do. They aren't going to #### you....Which is pretty rare anymore.

He's in there most every day. Stop by, have a cup of coffee, ask some questions. You won't find a more knowledgeable crew anywhere. I grew up in Centralia, so I've been buying stuff there since I can remember. It would be pretty tough to dethrone them as my favorite saw shop!

Welcome to the west coast. I'll be back up in Washington next month myself. Madsens will be one of my first stops.

Are you moving back from Ireland,,, or just visiting????

The first Time I went to Madsens I couldnt believe it,,,, Totally coolest forestry place I have ever been in,,, I love it there,,,

They have nice restrooms. They are back behind the saws on the south wall. I go to both saw shops. Both are excellent to deal with.

I read the horror stories about saw shops, and think how lucky we are.

I've been back for nearly 2 months or so now. No work in Ireland or England, so been biding my time until I found work here in the States. Still, I spent nearly 7 months between the two, so I had plenty of vacation as well as work. If everything works out(and I can get commercial insurance at a decent price) I will be working in forestry in the PNW as a contractor by early March. Wish me luck.

And when the contracts are at a lull, I'll be cruising round Ireland and England to hang with my mates there for a spell.

That's not any ordinary 090

Madsen's is one of the few places that stock socks and gloves in smaller sizes. Yes, I can wander in and pick up medium sized heavy duty socks! That is a rarity. Unfortunately, they don't do the same with good brands of boots. Nobody does that.

It is also the place you can get blue wedges.
