I've gotten into some large wood recently and my ole 039 has met it's match. So I've jumped off the deep end and gotten a 044. She needs a good going over...but I think I'll like her.

Anyway, 134958759 is the serial. Can anyone tell me more about her?

what what what

I can't help on the serial #. Try calling your Stihl dealer or go in and ask when you need parts. That 044 should blow away the 039, Mine are soooo sweet. They are not much heavier than my 029, thinking of selling it:D

Well, I can tell you one thing or two.... She will definetly blow away a 039, maybe even blow it in the weeds!LOL You should like her, it weighs almost as much as the 039, maybe a few ounces difference but that's about it. And a lot more power! 044's are good, and tough to beat.:chainsawguy: ;) :D :biggrinbounce2:  :rockn:

I'm hoping that's it will feel better in the bigger wood. 039 cut fine w/ a 20" buried in softwood but doesn't have much reserve.

I have a list of mods compiled that I'll eventually do but first I'd like a bone stock comparison.

One question I have is how much louder is the DP cover. I found the muff mod on the 039 to be great but exhaust noise was deafening.

But I'm getting ahead of my self...I have yet to check the saw out totally for leaks and/or piston melting issues.
