How many cords do you sell a year? The guy who I used to keep my stuff with sold somewhere around 500 cords a year. He would keep wood stacked all over the place 8' tall. Usually there were at least 100 cords there. He was going to buy out a guy that sold 4,000 cords a year, but I don't know whatever happened with that.

not very many, alot of it has yet to season so ask me next year!
what is a true cord. i know i should know this but i always forget!

When some people refer to a cord of wood, they are actually referring to a 'face cord', which is 2'X4'X8'. That's about how much is in a level pickup truck bed. This is a common measure of firewood to sell.

thanks guys, next year we are gonna go after it hard and try and sell all of it, i really dont like bringing it back here but we figured we would give it a try.
do any of you sell wood, if so, how is it?

Picture a box.

Federal cord is 4'x4'x8' long. Used when selling logs to a mill.

Face cord is 4'x fire place size which is what ever the customer wants.
Around 16" seems the best size for people to handle.
x8' long.
Used to sell firewood.
The length is determined by what will fit into the majority of fireplaces. Average face cord might be 4'x16"x8' long.

500 face cords in a year all split/stacked by hand by one guy? Does he deliver? Hmm

I do firewood just to get rid of it because I'm interested in wildlife soft mast regrowth habitat for hunting on a diversified private parcel. Ever try and get someone to help you make a rabbit brushpile with tree parts? It's not very popular. I only cut in the winter to minimize ground damage and when the trees energy is in the roots. Where I live you'd be lucky to sell one cord a week because it's rural. Time you figure all your time and expenses
there's really not much money in firewood in my area.
Not to mention the toll on one's muscles.

My uncle up in Price county used to put up around 50 cord a year when they heated and cooked on it. He would cut for a widow down the road who has a wierd stove that is 14in deep, so he would have to cut two different lengths.

She is in her 90's and still living in a wood heated house w/o any util. Her son did get a phone in a few years ago, but she still insists on the pit privy and zitzbath.

When I cut for fire wood I'll ask stove or fireplace, stove length is 16 in or less and place is 20 or less. Not that I get paid, I just do it so as not to haul.

I think that a full cord is 4'x4'x8' and a face cord is 16"x4'x8'.
There are 3 face cords in one full cord, that's why 16"(16x3=48"(4 feet)).
So if you are selling face cords, and the wood is 14", the stack should be a little longer.
It makes sense to me anyway.

Face cord wood means what you see from the face.
The split pieces can be any length. The highth and length of the cord never changes. I try and cut to 16" but some are 18" some are 14" it's just an average common size.

We're into our second week of "winter" here in Florida. Had frost 2 days in a row. BRRR. I had to bum some firewood from the guy I give my oak wood to. Pretty pathetic, huh? I guess its like the plumber with leaky faucets or the mechanic with a broken down car. I'm the treeman with no firewood.

I Split a lot of hardwood by hand over the last 8 years.
I don't even have a wood stove/fireplace.
Hmm

It keeps you warm tree times, cutting it, splitting it, and burning it.

Hey Scott, You gonna have lot more wood after that Cottonwood comes down, hey! did you measur the DBH??

not yet , its raining here today so no playing in the trees for me! but i will go down there and measure it! im also gonna take some pics of the beast!
