I am thinking of buying a MKIII from Bailey's. I have a 562xp with a 24 inch bar right now. Can I get a 36 inch mill but still use the 24 inch bar temporarily? I have quite a few 8 to 10 inch cedars down right now that I would like to practice on.

Yes, you can run the shorter bar on the longer mill but if you put the 36" mill to the test on a large log you will need more saw than what you have.

I've milled with the 562xp and it does not put out enough oil for even a 16" bar when milling. Trust me, I tried it... The bar ended up with a burnt edge and the chain even had burnt wood on it. This all happened without pushing the saw.. I just let it self feed down the sloped 10" log.

If you have to use the 562, I would get the 36" mill and use a 16" bar WITH and Aux Oiler in nothing larger than 12" hardwood. A 20" MIGHT work, but also might suck too much power.

Jake makes a good point with the oiler. I use a 30" mill with my 394 Husky and the oiler empties at the same time the gas does. If I'm milling a 16' long log I get only one pass with a full tank of fuel and oil.

if you get the mk3, get the 36". you can use smaller bars since its the clamps that move along the rails.i use a 20" sometimes a 24" almost all the time, but its nice to have the longer rails just in case.cedars are fairly soft, you shouldnt have any problems.
