Looking for a grapple truck. Seems most have a clamshell grapple. I need a grapple for handling firewood logs. How does the brush grapple do with logs?

I have zero experience with grapples. Suggestions welcome.

A clam shell bucket is more of a general purpose bucket, it will work for anything.(trash,brush,sidewalks,logs,ect.) We load logs with ours everyday but if thats all that you would be loading look into a bypass grapple, but after the logs are processed onto fire wood I dont think the bypass would do well.

I was thinking the "clam shell bucket" [thanks for the term] would be better for me but was wondering 'bout how it would handle logs.

Could you educate me on the size of the bucket? How are they rated? I understand more or less about weight ratings but size ratings [inches-feet-cube] are foreign to this hillbilly. Thanks.

Man I'm from the sticks too, dont worry. Are you interested in loading logs or processed fire wood?

I wish to load logs from various log landing, tree removal, and clear cutting sites. I will process these into firewood. So I want the grapple to load logs. I want to move logs on my lot for ease of cutting.

It also would be nice if I could load firewood and remove brush for cash.

Sounds to me that a clam shell bucket would be your best bet. What kind of loader do you have? I have a lightning loader and Peterson Ind. makes custom grapples for their loader but they get expensive.

I have not a loader at this point. I'm looking to purchase a used unit. I'd like a truck/dump with a loader.

Well now is the best time to be looking. I bought my first one about 3 months ago best money I ever spent. 06 Int 4300 with a dt 466 and tl3 loader with 80k miles and 3k hrs in excellent condition. From a bank that had repo'ed it. All I had to do was pay off the note!!!

And you did good. Most of these I'm running into use an auto tranny, how about yours?

Mine is an auto and it has the electronic shift. That is the one thing about the truck I wasn't sure about but everyone I talked to about it said thats the way to go. Only three months with the truck but no complaints with the auto. To be honest the elect. shift is starting to grow on me.
