I have a grapple truck with a 16 foot dumping box and single axle. What are the requirements as far as a tarp, tailgate etc. We are considering bringing it to storm country. We don't want to fight with the DOT. Thanks

Depends on the state, around here if you have either chains and binders or ratchet straps around the load you are ok. No tarps are required as long as there isnt bark etc flying off(dont pull out infront of a cop.)

guarenteed that question is beyond the understanding of 99.9% of the people here as well as almost any police officer you'll meet..

Try this

google motor carrier safety compliance..

there was a talk on the subject given at the penn del isa symposium a year or two ago... depressed the entire audience.. Fines are getting stiff from the DOT...

Good luck ... be careful

Any rolling stock should have a DOT number, having the GWVR on it and tear weight is a good idea, too keep them from pulling you over.

Tailgates may be optional some places, but if you have a chunk roll off you may find your self in trouble.

Tarps are something else, they are required here, but enforcement is sketchy.
