It looks like something that fell out of the alien mothership.

I've only had this maul out for one session of coast live oak so far so I can't make any definite conclusions but I'm liking it a lot. The head geometry is actually pretty similar to the venerable Fiskars 7854 but much heavier over all, nine pounds to be exact. After my first outing I dismantled the maul and removed the paint from the head and used a belt sander and diamond stones to improve the edge. I also removed the paint from the handle and applied a few coats of boiled linseed oil. After a few splitting sessions with the improved edge and bare metal cheeks I'll have a better idea of this mauls performance.

Rock solid so far, despite the merciless pounding. Every one in the stable gets shaved down for better penetration.

Is that a rubber insert on the back of the head? I can't tell from the picture, but it almost looks like a white rubber mallet on the wedge driving end.

Where did you find that thing? I looked all around the mother-ship and all I found were little green guys:hmm3grin2orange:
