I curently have a felco 12" saw and I think it works great, but I was looking at one of the Silky or Samaurai saws and wondering if they are worth the price? Is an $80 hand saw really worth it? Is there really that much difference between the two?

Is there a significant difference? ABSOLUTELY!

I have both Silky (a few) and Samaurai (just one). The Samaurai started out well, but hasn't lasted as long. I really like the Silky Sugoi.

Is it worth $60-$80? That depends---are you using it to make money? If so, there is no question (to me) that it is.

HELL yes!!!

A Silky is worth every penny you pay for it. I use a Silky Zubat, I won't climb without it, its like a third hand.
There is so much you can do with a quality handsaw that on certain jobs you can even leave the chainsaw on the ground all day, along with the earmuffs!

Love the Silky Sugoi. My buddy always used cheap handsaws until he used my Sugoi. Went out and got one right away. I grind the vine ripper thingy on the end to make a little hook for grabbing ropes.

Started out with Fanno hand saws and marvin pole saws. I have been using a Silky Sugoi and Silky Hayauchi pole saw for about a year now, and I love them...no comparison!

I had been using a wooden handled saw for years. When the handle broke I opted for a Silky Sugoi and have never looked back. Who would think that there could be such a huge difference in hand saws. The idea of leaving the chainsaw on the ground for small pruning makes the Silky a great investment. :rockn:

I added a Silky Pocket folder to the pruning arsenal, and was absolutely impressed. We have a couple Corona orchard saws we thrash on, and they do NOT cut as fast and as easily as the little Silky by any stretch.

I had to get another from Bailys when the Wife used the first one, and claimed it as hers. 3-4" canes come off with 3-4 swipes instead of bending Lopper handles or firing up a saw.

Definately worth it.

Stay safe!

The Silky's are very sharp. Found that they cut through flesh better than wood. Fortunately my fingernail and glove kept the blade from cutting into the bone on my index finger. :jawdrop:

I progressed from fanno, to corona, to samurai, now its silky all the way. The price is scary but they stay sharp for a long time. I have never been cut by a chain saw in 25 years(knock on wood)but I have two nice scars from hand saws. Don't underestimate them.
