Just curious if anybody out there sharpens there(sp?) handsaw blades? MOst of the guys I workl with just thrown them out once they get dull. But we have the luxury of having a tool allowance. I have a silky while they also have fannos, so blades for me are like 50 bnucks where theres are like 13. Big difference. I sharpened minef or the first itme and it workls well. Didnt even bnother with the points just the edges, but still works pretty slick.

what file did you use for sharpining?

Feather file

feather file, its sort of diamond shaped to fit in the teeth. Maybe 9 bucks from sherill.

What about Electrical induction Hardened Teeth on a saw (Silky Gomtoro), can you hand file those or do you just have to go and buy replacements?

i have never sharpened my blades before, but i know of some who do. at 50 bucks per blade i have some intrest in trying it and over 1/2 dozen sugoi blades laying around.

Throw it away

The steel cant be hardened steel to shapren (i htink anyway) There are two types of blades out there, some can be sharpeend and some cant. Id ont know the ins and outs of what qualifies it for shapening, but I think that you can only sharpen non hardened steel blades.

mail those blades back to silky and ask them to sharpen em for you, fun to see what happens, got one coming tomorrow how long do they last. I love sharpening the old fanno's

sharpen them handsaws

i use a dremel with a thin cutoff disk to sharpen my handsaws. a file just won't touch a zubat or sugoi but the dremel will clean it rite up. but you really need to do the points also for best results. just a gentle kiss and be sure to maintain the same angles, works like a champ. save-a-u-dough, too!

What they said on the feather file for Silky.

On Fanno/ARS I used to use a fine triangle file for 3 sharpenings, then I would send them out for recut and set of the teeth

Used to do them myself.

Then I switched to a place called DCP shapening near Beaverton, Oregon, that sharpened them to cut almost better than new blades.

Will see if they are still around, once we move in a few weeks.

I only have blades sharpened once, then replace.

It was $7 per blade a few years ago.
