What kind of hardhats do you guys wear while climbing. Have been using a standard husky logging hardhat but have found in tends to slip or fall off. Been thinking about getting a Petzl Vertex form Wesspur. Any ideas?

I use a Vertex. No complaints with it. Ecrin looks better if you're going for fashion. If you go with the Vertex get the vented. You can close the vents in cold weather. The unvented get mighty hot.

Ecrin works fine, never a problem. One tip: Buy one of those adjustable visors in a sporting goods shop, put adhesive-sided velcro strips on the back and front of your helmet, put the velcro mates on the ends of the visor band and brim and you can put it on your helmet when you're doing those jobs that always come up when the sun is shining right where you need to look up to.

whats a hard hat:monkey:

i got a Petzl Vertex (non vented), with Peltor Optime 105 ear muffs and Peltor flip up mesh visor.

love it, the muffs can be worn all day long, my ears are happy, the helmet is very comfortable, even more so with a liner now that its colder.

You've got to use a hat with some kind of chinstrap when climbing! Keeps that sucker on your head.
I use a petzl Vertex Vent, used to have a SIP hard hat that was fitted with a petzl chinstrap, till it got too old, it was very light and well balanced, wish I had another one.

try a ratchet suspension or a pacific from wesspur

Many of the climbers that I know who have tried the Vertex don't care for the helmet unless you wear the hearing protection. Without the hearing pro the helmet tends to slide around on their head. Most of them go back to wearing an Ecrin.

Ecrin is my choice!

I've got one of thes Pacific helmets, anyone got any ideas on how I can attach the earmuff-style hearing protection?

i have had the pacific for ~6 months. just sent it back to sherrill for an exchange..... the plastic harness broke for no apparent reason. anyone else with this problem?

otg- the helmet should come with the black brackets to house the muff clips.

I just checked the Sherrill website, you're right, the new ones do come with brackets. Mine is a couple of years old, no brackets.:(
I love this helmet so I'd say get another and see if it isn't the best you've ever had.

otg-
just checked the catalog too. look at the petzl ecrin... they have the brackets for sale for $32. easy to retrofit.

Tom, I'd venture to say that said climbers have not understood and setup the six different adjustments available on the Vertex that make it fit perfectly on even my oddly anvil shaped brain case. Play around and you get it fitting like a second skull.

$32 beans! When I got my Vertex w/Peltors and visor, the adaptors for the Ecrin Roc were chucked in free!

Still got 'em, and all the mounting hardware .....and the instructions.

This stuff is just taking up shelf-space, anyone wants this stuff, PM me we'll work out shipping, I have no use for them, and no intention to make any profit.

Not true...all of the climbers that I'm talking about, myself included, were among the gang that started wearing helmets instead of hard hats many years ago. All of us are very familiar with tweaking and adjusting.

The cranium strap across the back will tend to fold and get a kink in it if the helmet isn't stored carefully. The webbing straps on the Ecrin fold down inside. I feel that the Ecrin gives my melon more square inches of protection too.

For ear protection, google tiger tails+hearing protection
