has anyone successfully replaced 395xp flywheel key

After a full rebuild of 2019 brazilian saw which ran for 5 seconds before key snapped. As you all know it's the crappy built in design unlike the nice 394 with proper key. It did look a bit iffy when I assembled it as previous owner snapped the flywheel thread off crankshaft hence the rebuild.
I was thinking of trying to jbweld a normal key in there which would be ground down to suit smaller 395 key??
would be a shame to bin a fairly new genuine flywheel.
Open to any suggestions.

Key is only for location, its the tapered shaft that holds things in place once the nut is done up. Mark where the key should be or file a small notch where it was for reference so you can line things up then tighten the nut & you're done. Maybe even give it a couple of deg advance while youre at it

If the taper inside the bore is still in good nic then go for it, as already said the key only locates for timing, the fit between the taper in the bore and the crank holds the flywheel in place.

Considering a previous owner, it sounds like it ran for more than "five seconds"

Yes in previous life. I meant after full rebuild. will be heading to workshop today to see if I can get it timed.

Had trouble like that with a Husqvarna 298 used valve grind compound put a dab on and spin the flywheel with no key shine it up
