Just finished a cool job yesterday. Three of us went 40 miles across Atlin Lake on sleds. I was pulling lumber and tools in tandem skimmers with an 800 Scandic with 24" track. Thank God for the hand warmers.
Anyway, my job was to cut timber to make a clearing for a heli pad and drill pad, mostly Balsam to 15" dia. Losts of dead snags and yes I wore a hardhat. Lol I also had to cut an access trail down a steep stope to a creek so the driller can get water. The snow was 24" deep and I was cutting on snowshoes which I rocked out on! lol The other guy was building two tent frames for the drillers.
All the building material was long lined into the site with a helicopter off the lake. The mornings were -20C and -5 in the afternoon.
We finished ahead of scedual in four 12 hr. days. It was snowmobiling 101 for me and I only flipped the skimmer once.
I may have a camp job now unloading airplanes in the Yukon for the guy I was working for.
The country up here is really wild and relatively untouched. One of the guys took pictures so I'll get them from him and post them.

Sounds like a good time. I really like the country up there. I like snow and cold weather so it is appealing in that regard. I would be interested in any pictures that you post.

It was a riot, we went across the lake to visit some miners, but there was a huge pressure crack, they called happy hour.
Anyway, it was a hoot getting over that pressure crack. The boss got stuck with tandem skimmers but we pushed him off. It's great to be working with people who know what they are doing. So anyway that whiskey tasted good when we got there sitting beside the fire. Big time gold mining here.

Use a snowmobile daily to get around from place to place where we're cutting. Today it was hailing. Going full tilt with the hail smacking me in the face got old fast.

I sure whould like to see some pics of your operation Gypo. Sounds really cool, you no AS rules no pics didn't happen:popcorn:

I wonder why does it always hurt one's face while riding on a snowmobile? Another thing is when your face is truly frozen, you get whipped right on the tip of your nose by a twig or something. Grown men can cry too!

Used to work about 8 miles from home, rode the sled to work every day all winter.

Never had one as an official work vehicle though.

Sleds are pretty much a winter tradition around here for outdoor fun in the winter. A couple guys I know that work construction in the summer and are laid off in the winter put over 3000 miles on their sleds this year. We had good snow on the trails since the end of Nov here up till about 2 weeks ago.

Those are some really nice pictures. Love those mountains in the second group of pics.

Are those temperary shelters that are being built? Not too many rafters on those things.

A guy that I used to work with that really knows his stuff never understood people wanting to snowmobile. He would say "snowmobiles have a bad reputation for taking people out into the woods and leaving them there." I suppose its true. I like what you're doing though. Always take a buddy.

Nice pictures, John. Easy riding on the snowmobiles is the best thing you can do in such a jolly weather.

The woods looks so familiar to me.
