Have Any of You Ever Run Anything Like This?

Yes. That doesn't look all that different from the old gear drive/float carb Macs of the 40/50s. The big bulge just ahead of the motor is the gear box that could be rotated to position the bar for angle cuts, the motor had to remain horizontal. Usually a bar that long would have had a helper handle on the outboard end. Slow cutting compared to current but a lot of lumber was cut with them.

I just think it is very interesting that this thing has actually been used. I cant imagine and I think it would be cool to hear one of these run. I am not sure on that stinger and oiler you are referring too. Just thought this would be a conversation piece. I do want to take the bar of her and see is she seized or not. I havent had this long and havent had much time to spend with it. But from the information I have read and hearsay, the second man handle is missing.

I have had the honor of being at both ends of a 2 man Mall thanks to Chainsaw57 (a member but scarce as of late). Not as scary as you might think, heavy and slow by todays standard but must have seemed like a light sabre in its day. Scratcher chain pulls big chips. Almost makes me want to find an old 2 man saw.

You're right, with the helper handle installed, theres no nose area to make contact with wood, which means that the only way it could kick is if the top or bottom of the bar were to become pinched in the wood, which would either push the saw toward the operator, straight back, or pull the saw toward the log. Luckily, when the saw pushes backwards, the chain doesnt hit you, the engine and handles will instead.(but it will still hurt some)
Thank god we have chainbrakes now.

Yea buddy, spent a sentence ,one winter,on the helper handle of a Mall model 7.Threw chips like a beaver on steroids .Ear shattering ,smokey old behemoth.

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to run one of these before? Looks kinda dangerous to me, but I dont think I would have ever wanted any parts of this sucker.

Wonder where you hook the strap to attach that to the climbing belt? :p

If you get to Tupper Lake, Lumberjack's Resturant has some old saws hanging for decor. There is a 2-man saw of some sort (haven't been there in a while) sitting on a shelf.
