Hi everyone!

I found this place because I'm about to get a log splitter. But before this get bucked up, I am wondering if it could be a big mistake...

I have cut a lot of trees but have never seen anything live like this...

I think it would be called spalted but I thought that only happens to dead wood?

This would be about 30 inches across and 12-14ft long Silver Maple...

Is this worth anything as a log?

Thanks!!

That pattern runs all the way through the tree and can be seen on the cuts off the crown/top of the tree also..

I'd recommend some slabs....they need to be cut thick, think bowl blanks.

I looked up ambrosia and all the pictures show exactly that!

Exotic Wood maple, ambrosia

Still not sure as to firewood it or not, I might try to rip a plank to make a cutting board for the little lady Hmmm...I do a lot of wood work but usualy after the mill LOL...

As a Sawmiller, this stuff is quite common in soft maple and really is about the least valuable wood you want to run through your mill. If you where to turn over any american made upholstered furniture you would likely see the frame is made from wormy soft maple. Yes, it can be very beautiful, in fact there is a bar in my home town that has quite a bit of it as panelling.
