Hi all,
I'd love some help with identifying what to do. I have three trees that seem to have developed some kind of rot (photos attached). Can any of these be saved, or will they all need to be cut down? They aren't particularly tall, so the physical act of cutting them is easy enough, but I'd love to save them if there is any way. Thanks a lot.

What did they get hit with, a backhoe? There is probably rot but looks like mechanical damage. Also if you see someone has wrapped something around the trunks of your trees it is a good idea to remove it. Are these some kind of cherry? They are prone to something known as Black Knot which is a fungus. If they are not a threat to people or buildings, let em do their thing and see what happens.

Thanks so much for the replies, I've just seen these. I've added more photos if they are at all helpful. I'm clueless about the types of trees. I don't know whether they've suffered mechanical damage in the past, but it seems like something that has spread. They have orange sap on some of them. They are each around a meter apart. Some of the surrounding trees are intact, but not these unfortunately.

Would sun scalding cause orange sap? In terms or crown weight, should I just trim back some of the top branches?

Same thing happened to my Kwansan cherry (that's what you have) . Healthy tree, had it for years. one day it just seemed to explode. The bark split longitudinally and the orange looking jelly came out of the cracks. Tree died within the month. It wasn't in the sun, it didn't get excessive water or excessive lack of water, no fertilizer additions and actually, it was like you are now, just about to bud out and then, dead.
