Hi, first post. Not really an arborist but I have a farm with 5 acres of woods that I manage along with tapping Maples for syrup and starting a chestnut orchard. Ice storms the other year caused extensive damage so I was in the market for an affordable chipper that didn't need too much work.
I picked up this chipper which, of course, has no identifying tags whatsoever.
Here are some details:
6 lug 15" tires with electric brakes. 7-1/4 x 4 knives, about a 42" disk. The throat measures 16" H x 17" W. The fuel tank is mounted in the frame. There are 3 instruments by the clutch: Temp, oil pressure and Amps but no tach. The engine is a 6 cylinder Chrysler Slant 6 with an electronic governor. Date codes on parts in the governor indicate it was built around 1987-88. The industrial version of that engine was produced through 91 so that all more or less corresponds. The only number I could find under the paint (so far) was on the tongue and looked a little odd: 5j5000005. There's a door under the bottom feed roller that hinges down.
The original color was orange.
To me, this looks a lot like a Brush Bandit 100 but it also looks a bit like a Woodchuck WC17. The fellow at Bandit that I talked to said they never used Chrysler engines and the number didn't make sense to him. I don't think it was a repower, everything looks original to me.
I had a number of issues to sort out: rebuild carb, replace hydraulic hoses and feed direction valve, but overall it's in pretty good shape. The engine runs good and the bearings and clutch are in good shape.
Any ideas?
thanks
